GAME NEWS
There is little further news to date with regards to Update 13 beyond that it is still on course for release in August.
Console transfers are also in development we’re lucky to have one of our mentors in the early adopters programme for this, so we should know more about how the process actually works in practice soon. Expected date for the normal public transfers are in September.
It’s worth noting again what FDev have said to date with regards to the transfer if you are intending on using this opportunity to clone your account.

SQUADRON NEWS
Some sad news this week, CMDR Dalvon, the dreaded Raccoon of Terror, flier of spaceships, and rider of horses, has left the server. He’s spent a lot less time here recently, with real life demanding more of his time, and finally felt that it was time to close out his time with NEWP fully, and indeed spend a lot less time in discord in general. We started and built this community together, he’ll be greatly missed, and the place won’t be the same without him, but, I’m incredibly lucky to have an amazing staff team here, who are going to keep building and running the incredible community we have built.
A huge thankyou to everyone in the Mentor team, and everyone on the community who continues to make NEWP the awesome place that it is.

FACTION NEWS
The New Pilots Initiative faction is currently under attack from an unknown foe. They have launched an assault against us in multiple star systems at once. Though Mav suspects that their true target is his favourite system - Ori.
The incredible guys in the Faction Ops (BGS) team have leapt to action to defend our innocent citizens, but have asked me to put out a Call To Arms for all our members. If you are willing and able to help out, head down to the faction-chat channel on discord to find out how you can defend your faction.
EVENTS
Firstly, you may have noticed, that we’ve added a new event-suggestions channel on discord. This is the place for you to put forwards your best and brightest ideas for events, and we’ve already got a few ideas in there, which we’ll try to get set up promptly.
In the meantime, we have other events in progress too. This weeks is AX setup week, and opportunity to get yourself together a suitable ship to enter the bug hunting competition that CMDR Rosencrantz JR has put together for next week. It’s a challenging one, you’ll need to build a AX DBS (this build to be precise:
However, next week, we are going to be running a competition, giving away a total of 10 Billion Credits for those who perform the best.

You’ll learn how to build your ship to survive Open Play, get theoretical and practical 1 on 1 experience with notorious gankers, and if you’re feeling up to it… a 4 v 1 challenge for the ultimate learning experience; The Gauntlet.

Sadly, the recent community goal for the delivery of tritium to the Golconda has now been completed. I hope everyone who wanted to had the opportunity to stack up some credits. It was a pretty incredible event, the community managed to sell some 79,000,000t of tritium to the system over the course of just a few days, at a price of about 32 TRILLION credits. Impressive cargo hauling.

I’ll be organising and running close quarters combat scraps. These short “deathmatch” style battles are a lot of fun and while very different from combat in the ships in the normal ED universe, CQC can still teach you a lot about combat flying.

SQUADRON NEWS
We’ve recently seen a few changes among the squadron leadership. The most recent, sadly is that CMDR Coach Z has stepped down to pursue other opportunities. Coach has been a huge part of this squadron for a long time and will be greatly missed, however, he’s still hanging out around the server, just in a different colour now. Thank you Coach, for everything you have done for NEWP, and good luck with the new squadron and all your future endeavors.
SERVER NEWS
NEWP is continuing to expand our support to other games. The most recent is Minecraft, in which we have now have a server set up in Survival mode. The details are pinned in the Minecraft channel. So, if you’re interested in playing with others from NEWP, then head down there.
FACTION NEWS
Our incredible Faction Ops (BGS) team is continuing to spread the enlightenment of NEWP to the wider galaxy. As it stands today, they have established a presence in no less than 37 star systems, and have taken full control of 27 of those. This includes 94 stations, 151 settlements and over 10 Billion people citizens. If you’d like to take part in faction operations and learn about the strategic side of Elite. Return of 7Cs
Today, we have the official end of the 7 C’s expedition. It’s been an incredible trip, which has produced masses of exploration data, and loads of amazing photos. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who put together this fantastic event. Great work. We’ll be retiring the 7-cs-voyage channel in the next day or two, so make sure you grab anything from that channel you need.
5 Euro Tour Launches
As one expedition ends, another begins. This time, it’s the return of the amazing 5 Euro Tour. CMDR Huntaer has run this amazing event before, and I hugely recommend it to anyone who enjoys exploration. See poster for details.

We are constantly adjusting things on the server in the background, this week we have a new role No Man’s Sky Veteran has been added. These are folks who have a good deal of experience and expertise in NMS and are able and willing to provide help and advice to anyone who needs it.
As time goes on we may well add more folks to this role if interest in the game continues to grow, and equally we may add similar roles for other games that we are now starting to support.

GAME NEWS
First things first, the big news of the day. Account Transfers! Following the painful news that Odyssey is not going to be coming to the consoles FDev said that they were looking into the possibility of making full account transfers from console to PC possible. As of earlier today, Fdev have confirmed that this will be made available. We don’t have an exact date for this yet, but there will be a specific window of time when this is available and once only.
There is also some other crucial information about this. Most importantly this is a **COPY **of your console account to PC, not a transfer. As a result, you get to keep your console CMDR with all the assets and progression etc, and get another CMDR the same on the PC. This includes:
- ships
- engineering
- navy ranks
- unlocks
- all your cosmetics
However, it does not include:
- a fleet carrier (fleet carriers are unique game assets and cannot be duplicated but you can just sell them and copy the credits).
- CMDR Name (since names are unique, and yours may have already been taken on PC)
- ARX balance (so just spend your remaining ARX on whatever cosmetics you want as these will transfer across).
In general my view is that this seems very reasonable, and while I know that this falls well short of what any of us would want (which would ideally be continued development of Odyssey for consoles) it does at least provide console players with the option to move across.
I would advise everyone to take advantage of this opportunity if you can, since there doesn’t appear to be a downside, and only provides you with an additional opportunity. Full details are available on the forum post here:

This is an early heads up that I will be changing how the guides and tips channels work in the server. We have been making a number of changes in the background of the server, including the bot commands that CMDR Vadergans has added, and with most of the guides now available on the website, in a more readable format, it makes sense to remove them from this server. We will instead have an index channel with essentially a list of quick-links to help folks get to the relevant website pages quickly and easily.

Friday May 6th - ISO Terrion Exploration Expedition #3 will be departing Meliae, no sooner than 2000 UTC to explore the Vulcan Gate region about 23,400 light years away. Details are in the events-channel on discord.
26th May - the return of the amazing 5 Euro Tours. These trips are always amazing and produce incredible pictures from the most beautiful parts of the galaxy. We’ll have a dedicated channel up soon.

SQUADRON NEWS
Firstly, a few changes to the staff around here. It’s my very great pleasure to welcome CMDR Maverick and CMDR Igikaizen to the Squadron Leadership team.
Mav joined the squadron way back in August 2020 when he got picked up by one of our combat wings during the Great Muffin Wars. Meanwhile Igi joined the squadron in August 2021, and after an impressively swift ascent joined the mentor team here in January this year. Both of these guys have been doing amazing work here on the server throughout this time, and it’s a huge pleasure to have them both on the leadership team.
I’m also very pleased to have CMDR Easy Glider and CMDR Demon5760 joining the mentor team. Easy joined the server back in November 2020 but was already an old hand at that point, and has been a consistently helpful member of the server for a very long time. On the other hand when Demon arrived here first back in July 2021, they were just about ready to leave the Noobula, but they have gained knowledge and experience rapidly, and have been keenly helping others along the path for the last few months.
I want to thank all of you for everything you do here. The time, energy and expertise you share helps to make NEWP the awesome place it is.

ELITE NEWS
Last week fleet carrier interiors became a thing and we are now finally able to walk around, and watch the jumps from inside. This is going to make long distance trips in FC’s a lot more interesting. As expected, there were a number of bugs with these, but mostly relatively minor. One key issue that FDev have acknowledged is that the bartender being able to only buy or sell 100 materials at a time is “a little low”. So they are apparently looking into that. NEWP is expanding our activities to cover additional games. Alongside our existing presence on Elite and Star Citizen, we have now established channels for No Man’s Sky and Stellaris. The news last week that Odyssey will not be coming to consoles was difficult for all of us to take I think, and I know there are many of you who feel understandably angry about this. For those who want to try to effect change, my main advice would be to make use of the forums. There are a number of active discussions on the topic which you can contribute to, there are plenty of others as well.
Not to mention a petition to ask Frontier to reconsider and continue development of Odyssey for console.
However, no matter what happens with any of the above, I want to thank all of you for being a part of this server, and for everything you do here. NEWP is a fantastic community, and that is true because all of you.
On a positive (though somewhat bittersweet note), Update 11 is going to be released tomorrow morning around 1000 GameTime. This is a long awaited update which will bring Fleet Carrier interiors to Odyssey players. For the first time, you’ll be able to watch your carrier jump from inside your carrier, it’s good to see this finally arrive. Details are here:

NEWP is currently fighting a war in Wolf 437 for control of a ground based settlement, and an election to retain control of one of our installations in Lalande 27055, as part of our ongoing drive to spread our educational facilities to more of the galaxy. It’s time to stock up on those raw materials. The crystal shards are by far the fastest way in the galaxy to stock up on raw materials and we’ll be providing fleet carrier support to make the process quicker and easier. Just hop on the carrier, hop off at the destination systems skipping out on 1600Ly of travel, and some long supercruise trips too. Many of you will already be aware of this at this point, but for those who have not seen it yet, today we have an announcement from FDev that many people feared with regards to consoles.
Frontier will not be releasing Odyssey for Xbox or Playstation. Indeed they have cancelled all future development for consoles except critical updates. The game will continue to work at the current version, but no further updates will be released.
Clearly this is terrible news for the game community as a whole, and our console brethren in particular. I’m not going to try to put a positive spin on this, many people, myself included are very angry and frustrated with Fdev for this decision. All I would ask is that you guys keep to the server rules while discussing this.

Great news, we finally have a confirmed date for Update 11, and it’s actually sooner than I expected - 8th March, so next week. This update will introduce fleet carrier interiors for Odyssey CMDRs and a bunch of additional functionality for fleet carriers as a result. Info on the release date is here:

The Colonia Bridge, Phase 4, Week 3 is now in progress. This is a community goal to add a Bar Tender, Material Trader, and Missions board to a set of the Colonia Bridge stations. It’s also worth noting that the top 75% of contributors will also receive some free cosmetics in the form of white engine trails. Details here:

FACTION NEWS
NEWP has once again pulled off a successful expansion. This time we are beginning operations in the Lalande 27055 system, and are fighting to secure out foothold in the system.
Thanks to the incredible organisational skills of Faction Command, and the relentless energy and resolve of the Faction Ops (BGS) team we now have a presence in 34 star systems, and have control of 25 of them. Nothing exciting to report this week unfortunately. We had hotfix 10.02 launch at the back end of last week, but that was just another stability fix, so nothing interesting. Hopefully we’ll hear more from Fdev about update 11 soon.
SQUADRON NEWS
Many of you guys will have noticed this already, but I think it’s best to bring it to everyone’s attention.
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome CMDR Dalvon back to the role of Admin on the server. He has resumed his efforts already keep everything running smoothly here already. This means that there will now be three of us on the server with Admin permissions, CMDR Vadergans, CMDR Dalvon and myself.
FUEL RAT TRAINING
At the weekend we were extremely lucky to have the Fuel Rats delivering rescue training on the server. This was a fantastic event featuring a presentation giving a raft of info about who the rats are, what they do, and how they work. Along with a Q&A session from their presenters. Which then led into individual breakout sessions where trainees were paired up with Rat Overseers to learn more about ratting and rescues.
It was a great event, I really enjoyed what I was able to attend myself, and I’ve heard loads of positive feedback from the trainees.
I’d just like to offer a HUGE thank you to CMDR Anja324, and all the Fuel Rat Instructors for all their time, energy and dedication. You guys did an amazing job. Have a snickers.

This weekend we’ll be running combat wings, bring whatever combat ship you enjoy flying the most, we’ll be heading out hunting taking out pirates and maybe fighting wars as well. We will soon have a dedicated wing channel set up for helping to co-ordinate this.

Not much by way of exciting news this week. We’ve had hotfix 10.01 drop, which was intended to fix a small number of bugs mostly introduced by update 10. The big question is when we’ll see update 11, with the more substantial updates that will include. No further info on this at the time of writing.
GALACTIC NEWS
The new size 3, 4 and 6 double engineered FSDs from the Colonia Bridge CG have finally been released. However, unfortunately there appears to be a problem with them. As such, we are being advised not to try to apply experimental effects to them at the moment.
WEEKEND EVENT
Most of you will already have heard of the legendary Fuel Rats and their activities in Elite. These guys are one of the most altruistic groups out there, and have to date, pulled off over 120,000 rescues, and are doing more at a rate of about 60 per day right now, that’s about one Commander rescued every 25 minutes. They operate on every platform, making sure that Commanders survive when they forgot to bring a fuel scoop, and get to their destination.
We have a special event for you guys this weekend, we’ve teamed up with the Rats to put together some rescue training. In this event you will learn all about the rats, what they do and how they do it. You can be taken out with a Rat Overseer and see if you’ve got what it takes to earn your tail. The CG for those lovely new double engineered FSDs is closing in just a matter of about 5 hours from the time of writing, so if you want to get them, and haven’t done so yet, this is your last chance. You’ll need to deliver something like 4000t of goods to get yourself in the top 75% and secure the reward.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
2021 has been another very busy and strange year, but as midnight rolls around the world, and we move into 2022, it’s time to look ahead. So, I’d like to wish you all a fantastic 2022 from everyone here at NEWP.
ANNIVERSARY
Today (still 31st December in the UK) is also the New Pilots Initiative’s Anniversary. It was 3 years ago today that I created this server, and myself and CMDR Dalvon started putting things together here. So it’s always a good time to look back on where we have come from and everything we have achieved over the last year.
On this day last year, we were celebrating just passing 3000 members on this server, and 632 members on Inara. Today we are at just over 5300 members on the server, and 1168 registered members on Inara. A year ago, we had just 7 systems under control of our faction, while now thanks to the incredible work of our Faction Ops (BGS) team we now control 22 Systems.
Over the last year, we have built our website https://newp.io/ and created many of the new guides that our members are using to get a foothold in the game. We’ve held some of the largest events we have ever done as a squadron, including the 5 Euro Tours, the Boundless Voyage, and the Eye of the Odyssey competition to name just a few. We’ve had some of our old guard staff members step down, but more folks have stepped up to keep moving the squadron forward, and of course helped hundreds and hundreds of new pilots find their way in the galaxy.
It’s really fantastic to see this community continuing to grow in this way, and I’d like to thank you all for being a part of this group. I’d especially like to thank the staff. Our @Mentor and @Squadron Leadership team do an incredible job making everything on this group continue to work so well, and all the Veterans and Specialists, and everyone else who shares their knowledge to help others. You’re all awesome, thank you all.

With January coming around we’ve got ourselves a new and exciting roster of events coming up to keep you all entertained through the winter blues. With the ongoing Engineer Unlock trip in progress leading into a week of racing, and more fun events coming soon after including gank survival training, rescue training etc.

How the Goose stole NEWPmas

Every Minion Down in Minionville Liked NEWPmas a lot…
But the Goose, who lived just north of Minionville, Did NOT!
The Goose hated NEWPmas! The whole NEWPmas season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his beak was too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
Whatever the reason, His heart or his beak,
He stood there on NEWPmas Eve, hating the Minions,
Staring down from his cave with a sour, Goosey frown,
At the warm lighted windows below in their town.
For he knew every Minion down in Minionville beneath,
Was busy now, hanging a packhound wreath.
“And they’re hanging their cargo racks!” he snarled with a sneer,
“Tomorrow is NEWPmas! It’s practically here!”
Then he growled, with his Goose feathers nervously drumming,
“I MUST find some way to stop NEWPmas from coming!”
For Tomorrow, he knew, all the Minion girls and boys,
Would wake bright and early. They’d rush for their toys!
And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the Noise!
Noise! Noise! Noise!
That’s one thing he hated! The NOISE!
NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!
Then the Minions, young and old, would sit down to a feast.
And they’d feast! And they’d feast! And they’d FEAST!
FEAST! FEAST! FEAST!
They would feast on Ferrero-pudding, and rare Seal-roast beast.
Which was something the Goose couldn’t stand in the least!
And THEN They’d do something He liked least of all!
Every Minion down in Minionville, the tall and the small,
Would stand close together, with NEWPmas bells ringing.
They’d stand hand-in-hand. And the Minions would start singing!
They’d sing! And they’d sing! And they’d SING!
SING! SING! SING!
And the more the Goose thought of this Minion NEWPmasSing,
The more the Goose thought, “I must stop this whole thing!”
“Why, for forty-two years I’ve put up with it now!”
“I MUST stop this NEWPmas from coming! But HOW?”
Then he got an idea! An awful idea!
THE Goose GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!
“I know just what to do!” The Goose laughed in his throat.
And he made a quick Either Claus hat and a coat.
And he chuckled, and honked, “What a great Goosey deceiver!”
“With this coat and this hat, I look just like Saint Either!”
“All I need is a reindeer…” The Goose looked around.
But, since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found.
Did that stop the old Goose? No! The Goose simply said,
“If I can’t find a reindeer, I’ll make one instead!”
So he called his bot, Mav. Then he took some red thread,
And he tied a big horn on the top of his head.
THEN He loaded some bags And some old empty racks,
On a ramshackle Krait And he hitched up old Mav.
Then the Goose said, “Giddap!” And the Krait started down,
Toward the homes where the Minions Lay asnooze in their town.
All their windows were dark. Quiet snow filled the air.
All the Minions were all dreaming sweet dreams without care.
When he came to the first little house on the square.
“This is stop number one,” the old Goosey Claus hissed,
And he climbed to the roof, empty bags in his fist.
Then he slid down the chimney. A rather tight pinch.
But, if Either could do it, then so could the Goose.
He got stuck only once, for a moment or two.
Then he stuck his head out of the fireplace flue.
Where the little Minion cargo racks all hung in a row.
“These cargo racks,” he grinned, “are the first things to go!”
Then he slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant,
Around the whole room, and he took every present!
Ferreros! And Sidewinders! Corvettes! Drums!
Seal fish! Scarabs! Fighters! And plums!
And he stuffed them in bags. Then the Goose, very nimbly,
Stuffed all the bags, one by one, up the chimney!
Then he slunk to the icebox. He took the Minions’ feast!
He took the Minion-pudding! He took the roast beast!
He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a flash.
Why, that Goose even took their last can of Minion-hash!
Then he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee.
“And NOW!” grinned the Goose, “I will stuff up the tree!”
And the Goose grabbed the tree, and he started to shove,
When he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.
He turned around fast, and he saw a small Minion!
Little Kazumi, who was not more than three.
The Goose had been caught by this tiny Minion daughter,
Who’d got out of bed for a cup of cold water.
She stared at the Goose and said, “Either Claus, why,”
“Why are you taking our NEWPmas tree? WHY?”
But, you know, that old Goose was so smart and so slick,
“Why, my sweet little weeb,” the fake Either Claus lied,
“There’s a light on this tree that won’t light on one side.”
“So I’m taking it home to my carrier, my dear.”
“I’ll fix it up there. Then I’ll bring it back here.”
And his fib fooled the weeb. Then he patted her head,
And he got her a drink and he sent her to bed.
And when Kazumi went to bed with her cup,
HE went to the chimney and stuffed the tree up!
Then the last thing he took Was the log for their fire!
Then he went up the chimney, himself, the old liar.
On their walls he left nothing but hooks and some wire.
And the one speck of food That he left in the house,
Was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse.
Then He did the same thing To the other Minions’ flats
Leaving crumbs Much too small For the other Minions’ rats!
It was quarter past dawn… All the Minions, still a-bed,
All the Minions, still asnooze When he packed up his Krait,
Packed it up with their presents! The ribbons! The wrappings!
The tags! And the tinsel! The trimmings! The trappings!
Three thousand feet up! Up the side of Mt. Whitson,
He rode with his load to the tiptop to be smitten!
“HonkHonk to the Minions!” he was Gooseishly humming.
“They’re finding out now that no NEWPmas is coming!”
“They’re just waking up! I know just what they’ll do!”
“Their mouths will hang open a minute or two,
Then the Minions down in Minionville will all cry BooHoo!”
“That’s a noise,” grinned the Goose, “That I simply MUST hear!”
So he paused. And the Goose put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.
But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn’t be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Minionville! The Goose popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Minion down in Minionville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN’T stopped NEWPmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Goose, with his Goose-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it be so?”
“It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!”
“It came without packages, boxes or cargo racks!”
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Goose thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe NEWPmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.”
“Maybe NEWPmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
And what happened then? Well…in Minionville they say,
That the Goose’s small heart Grew three sizes that day!
And the minute his heart didn’t feel quite so tight,
He whizzed with his load through the bright morning light,
And he brought back the toys! And the food for the meal!
And he, HE HIMSELF! The Goose carved the roast Seal!

Patch 9.01 appears to have had some positive influence on the key issues which emerged from update 9. I suspect this will be the last update of the year, and Update 10 is expected sometime mid-late January.
Also note that right now we FDev are giving away free ARX every day that you log in. Right now this is at 300ARX per day, and likely to continue to increase as we get closer to Christmas. You literally just need to log on to collect them.
GALACTIC NEWS
For those who have not realised yet, some of the recent Galnet articles related to the infamous Winking Cat make reference to a “Gift from a thief”. And there have since been 3 oddly titled Galnet articles, with some strange spelling mistakes in the text. 3 more are expected over the next week or so.
I’m sure that you’ll all be able to solve this little puzzle for yourselves. However, if you’d rather just get the goods, I’ve written up a full explanation of the puzzle and the target locations and pinned it in the elite chat channel on discord.

GAME NEWS
Patch 9.01 has now launched, as expected, the introduction of the changes and new toys in Update 9 resulted in a few additional bugs, some of which were quite substantial, so we’ve had a hot fix launched to repair those. Patch notes are here:
I know that this won’t have addressed everything that is problematic, so i’d expect another coming quite soon after this one.
It’s also worth noting that we are now in the countdown to Christmas, and as a result FDev has started giving out their free Arx for each day that you log in. Right now we are at 100Arx per day. In past years they have increased this periodically as the days go on, so, if you want to get hold of extra Arx for minimal effort, this is a great opportunity.
FACTION NEWS
NEWP has expanded once again, this time bringing out educational facilities to the Ovid system where we are currently engaged in an election with one of the local factions for control of a port in the system. Thanks to the amazing work of our @Faction Ops (BGS) team we are now present in 29 systems, and represent the controlling faction in 21 of those. Our efforts to enlighten the galaxy are continuing apace and another expansion is already beginning.

This Weekend - Crystal Gardens Visit
Our final weekend event before the Christmas Break. This weekend we have both the return of the 5 Euro tour, and a trip to the Crystal Gardens.
It’s time to stock up on those raw materials. The crystal shards are by far the fastest way in the galaxy to stock up on raw materials and we’ll be providing fleet carrier support to make the process quicker and easier.

The big news for this week is the first look at the new SRV - The Scorpion. There are a few video’s already around from the usual suspects dissecting this, but here’s a link to the relevant part of the video from Fdev themselves:
A lot of folks in the community have been asking for a new SRV for a long time, and it’s great to finally see this. Looking forwards to getting my hands on one to try it out. This should be landing tomorrow morning, Fdev have said that the servers will be going offline at 0900 UTC and are expected to be down for around 3 hours.
Lets see what we can do with this new toy.
SQUADRON NEWS
A couple bits of news, firstly (and I’m sure many of your will have already noticed this, however, I never put it in an announcement, so it’s time to address that). Following the departure of Dalvon, we had a gap in the Admin roles on the server, leaving me on my lonesome here, which didn’t seem like the right way to run things. I’m incredibly lucky to have an amazing staff team to make things happen here in NEWP, which made choosing the right successor for Dal very difficult.
However, CMDR Vadergans, the mighty WarGoose, has demonstrated amazing leadership skills over his time with us, especially in somehow managing to herd cats in order to lead our BGS team in their ongoing conquest of the galaxy. So, it’s my great pleasure to announce that he’s now going wearing Admin tags, and as such, is somehow even more dangerous.
Secondly, just a heads up that we’re currently doing an audit of nicknames on the server and trying to make it easier to tell who is who. Recently, some folks have been changing nicknames so often it’s hard to tag or track, so we’ve locked out the ability to edit your own nicknames, at least for now.

GAME NEWS
So, the big news this week is Update 9. Fdev confirmed on their Supercruise News a couple days ago that we are expecting Update 9 to be arriving (to both Horizons and Odyssey) next week. We don’t have a specific date yet, but no doubt that will become clear soon. In terms of content, this update has some new and exciting stuff alongside the usual “fixes and optimisation” changes.
The big things are:

- the multi-limpet controllers - a module which can fire off different types of limpets (terms and conditions apply)

It’s great to see that there are quite a few issues that are now new to the list, as a whole bunch of things have been fixed. It’s also worth reminding you all again that FDev changed direction with regards to the engineering of the new v1 FSDs from the last CG. They can now be upgraded further with the experimental effects. As a result we are now seeing ships out there with larger jump ranges than ever before, including the impressive 90+Ly Anaconda.

NEWP has expanded once again, this time we are bringing our educational services to the locals in the Zaraluvul system. Congratulations to everyone in the Faction Ops (BGS) team who has worked so hard to make this happen.
The BGS is a deep an complex area of the game, and making sure these expansions hit the systems we are aiming at involves an incredible amount of planning and dedication to pull off. First up, very pleased to say that Frontier have changed their minds with regard to the Double Engineered FSDs from the latest community goal. You should now be able to apply experimental effects to them. HOWEVER, there will probably be some UI glitches when you do, so be careful with this.
SPACE FACT
The first patented invention made in space was a zero-G coffee cup. Astronaut Donald Pettit wanted to drink his coffee and tea from a cup rather than a pouch, so he made one with spare plastic and tape in exactly the right shape to keep the fluids from escaping.

No major news thus far this week, update 8.01 mostly seems to have been a positive update. Looking forwards to hearing more about update 9 soon hopefully (which should include the arrival of the new SRV).

**This Weekend **
This Saturday we’ll be doing a bubble exploration tour, courtesy of 5 Euro Tours (powered by the New Pilots Initiative). We will be visiting a bunch of interesting waypoints in and around the bubble. A sightseeing tour meant for even the greenest of pilots.
The tour will take around an 1/1.5 hours. Bring a ship with at least 20ly jump range, a fuel scoop and an SRV. The tour starts 19.00 Galactic Time. Be sure to bring a camera!

GALACTIC NEWS
The next stage of the Colonia Bridge operation is expected to be going live this week. This is the second phase of this operation adding megaships to the path between the bubble and Colonia. This is a substantial change to the galaxy making it easier to move both ships and carriers between the two human occupied areas of the galaxy.
FACTION NEWS
Victory in Rakapila! NEWP CMDRs fought an intense 6-day war to gain control of both Stone Enterprise and authority of the system. Some CMDRs were working against us, but they failed to choose the winning side! With the system under our control, NEWP will sort out the remaining conflicts and finally bring peace to the system. Peace - through superior firepower!
The NEWP expansion fleet has completed their latest campaign, with a surprise extension into the Ori system. At 11.85ly away from Meliae, it was only a matter of time before NEWP made an appearance there. While some rookie pilots have not been thrilled with the 436,690ls journey to its stations, the squadron’s veterans are delighted to finally subjugate a system that has irritated them for so long. Pack your holovids, CMDRs, and enjoy the trip in scenic Ori!

This Weekend - Crystal Garden Visit
It’s time to stock up on those raw materials. The crystal shards are by far the fastest way in the galaxy to stock up on raw materials and we’ll be providing fleet carrier support to make the process quicker and easier.

It’s been a sad week for NEWP with CMDR Dalvon departing the squadron, he’s been a massive part of the squadron ever since the earliest days and has contributed an incredible amount to making this server, and this group all that it is. We’re all going to miss him a lot, and thank you all for the kind messages you all sent saying your farewells, I know he appreciated them, and sad though it is that he won’t be around, I think the shift in focus for him is going to be good for him. As we always say - Real Life Comes First - Dal is showing that in action.
As for us, myself and the rest of the staff team are going to keep on doing what we do. This group is amazing and will continue to grow and build on what we have. Thank you all for continuing to be part of this amazing community.
SERVER NEWS
Just a quick warning that we have seen a lot of scammers going around recently. They are using large discord servers to acquire information about people and steal from them. Make sure you aren’t a victim, one common scam at the moment involves messaging the victim and telling them that someone is impersonating their Steam account and that you should get in touch with a particular member of staff (which they’ll happily direct you to).
Please treat unsolicited direct messages from people you don’t know as you would random phone calls from hidden numbers - with suspicion.

This Weekend - Guardian Site Visit
We’ll be providing Fleetcarrier support to take you out to the guardian sites and bring you back home safely.
These are fantastic and very atmospheric locations, which also offer you the opportunity to unlock some incredibly useful equipment particularly the likes of the Guardian FSD booster, AX weapons like the Gauss Canons.

Unfortunately update 8 has now been delayed until next week. However, there is some more information from FDev on both what is included in Update 8, and more things that are coming after Update 8, including the new SRV.
GALACTIC NEWS
A brief reminder to everyone that right now Fleet Carriers and outfitting for them is available at a 30% discount from both Alcor and Colonia. So, if you want to get a fleet carrier, now is the best time to buy one. Even if you already have one, and want to get some of your outfitting costs back, you could jump it to Alcor, remove the modules, replace them with new modules, and pocket potentially hundreds of millions of credits in savings.

Thargoid hunting offers the most challenging PVE gameplay available in Elite Dangerous with some very skilful and complex gameplay at the highest levels.
This training session will provide you with an understanding of these fascinating creatures, what we know about them, and of course, how to kill them.

Quiet week on game news this week. Looks like we should be expecting to hear more about Update 8 next week though.
GALACTIC NEWS
Over the last week there has been a pair of Community Goals running to build a bridge between the Bubble and Colonia. These have proven enormously popular and completed well ahead of schedule. As a result a total of 10 new dockable megaships will be added to systems along the way, these are expected to offer places locations to refuel and repair your ships on route, and also to sell tritium greatly easing the process of moving fleet carriers along the path to Colonia.
As an added bonus, completion of these CGs has resulted in a discount on Fleet Carriers and their modules of 30% starting this Friday - 15th October for one week from the Alcor system (very close to Meliae). So, if you’d like to get yourself a fleet carrier, or refit your existing carrier. This is an opportunity to do so at a substantial discount.

Hello again, radio listeners! This just in - New Pilots Initiative has expanded into the Rakapila system! Rakapila, already besieged by war from faction infighting, needs a new steward to bring it peace and prosperity. The system is only 19ly away from Meliae, and that makes it NEWP’s duty! Good luck, CMDRs! Rakapila is depending on you!
Also close to home, New Pilots Initiative support in 14 Herculis has grown and grown, and now residents demand an election to decide who will run the entire system. As we speak, NEWP pilots scramble to their ships for the campaign. I know which faction I am betting on!

This Weekend - Gank Survival Training
This training session will teach you how to survive against the most dangerous things in the Elite Dangerous universe - other players. Despite what some parts of the game community think, Elite is a highly defence biased game. As a result, it is possible to escape from virtually any attack once you have learned the technique as long as you have a passably well built ship (no that doesn’t mean tonnes of engineering).
This training will teach you everything you need to know. From ship design, to awareness, to evasion and escape techniques, and will include live fire training with real gankers to practice.

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone for your kind words and thoughts for our wedding. My wife and I had a fantastic time reading all the messages, and really appreciated them all. And the package Burl mentioned above was very VERY gratefully received. Thank you all.
Secondly, an apology from me for being somewhat distracted at the moment. Inevitably with everything going on in my real life, I’ve had somewhat less time to support operations here in NEWP than I would like. Now that we are successfully wedded, I imagine I’ll start to have some more time again, but I know that the Mentor team are doing an incredible job keeping everything running smoothly.

GAME NEWS
Update 7 is being deployed currently and servers are expected to be back up in around an hour. There are a whole host of changes being introduced, including a fix to the invincible thargoid hearts, adding AA turrets to ground CZs, increasing module and bookmark limits, adding new social hubs, stopping fighters counting for CZ kills and a lot of bug fixes too. Based on the latest news from the Cornsar system it appears that “Salvation” has deployed some kind of weapon and has brought an abrupt end to the Thargoid incursion into that system. The remains of destroyed Thargoid vessels are now found on planets all over the system. This seems like a potential shift to the balance of power in the Thargoid war.

Crystal Garden Visit
This weekend we’ll be providing fleet carrier support to head out to the Crystal Gardens to help everyone collect all the raw materials that you can carry. Some of these locations are stunning, and are, by far the fastest way to max out your high grade raw materials. I highly recommend this if you’re planning on engineering up some ships.

FDev gave us their second “top 20” issues list (I put this in quotes as their published 20 is actually issues 1-5 and issues 7-21 from their Issue Tracker). This provides a status update on what they are doing about all these issues and what we can expect to be fixed in update 7.

On our front lines, New Pilots Initiative expands again, this time into LHS 3006! The NEWP expansion fleet arrived on August 29, ready to bring freedom to the system’s residents, the planet Vulcan, and Leonard Nimoy Station- named after the famous poet from Earth’s 20th century. Surviving historical records from pre-WW3 say Nimoy was also a narrator in ancient video games and had a career in 2D television. NEWP has its eyes on deposing the evil confederacy ruling the system. Let’s go get ‘em, Commanders! For Leonard Nimoy!

Ever wondered what the galaxy would look like from above? Well now is your change to find out. Rackhams Peak is an outpost in the HIP 58832 system located over 5000ly above the galactic plane, it is the furthest point “up” which can be reached by CMDRs, and can only be reached at all through the use of fleet carriers.

Message from Faction Command
Our galactic support swells! With our expansion into LHS 6309, the number of galactic citizens supporting our cause has nearly tripled in the last week. Our diplomats have also reached an agreement with the system faction owner- the LHS 6309 Electronics Company- to resolve any disputes via peaceful votes by the system's citizens. May the best faction win - and the best faction will!
But not all factions have agreed to peace, and war has broken out in the system! With the Sigma Mobile Defense Network installation at stake, losing is not an option. Not to worry, citizens! NEWP CMDRs have scrambled to their combat vessels, and the war is already going in our favour. Peace is only days away!

There have been a bunch of the guys working away on this quietly in the background for months now, so huge thanks go out to all those who have worked so hard to make this happen. Too many people have contributed to name everyone involved but special thanks go out to xMikeSx, Edbacayo, IM2D, LouisFredlaw, Huntaer, Matt Metokur, SLBA, Solix, TiffTiffTiffler. You guys have done an amazing job.

Active Expansion! The New Pilots Initiative expansion fleet has finished assembling in the Magec system and will move out any day! While Faction Command has not yet revealed its destination, mathematicians from the Zobel Institute have published that they are “approximately 1000000000000% sure” it is LHS 6309. If true, let’s all give its 14.46 billion people a warm NEWP welcome!
While the expansion looms, NEWP pilots have been victorious at home! The second insurrection from Tiethay Noblement has been put down in the Tiethay system.

Update 6 went live last week as expected this has introduced a few new and interesting bugs, but on the whole there appear to have been some substantial improvements here with planets looking better than they did before and some more performance gains.

Not one, but two war victories! In the last week, New Pilots Initiative combat pilots successfully fought off both the Tiethay Noblement and Movement for Denebola Green Party insurrectionists in the Tiethay and Wolf 437 systems. But, this peace may not last!
This week, NEWP forces now marshal in the Magec system for an expansion. Our pilots aren’t yet telling us where this might take us to- remember, “Loose Lips Rebuy Ships”! Stay tuned as this story develops.

First up, we have information on update 6 which should be arriving later this week.
This update is focused on improving how performance and looks (improvements to lighting, textures, colour variation of planets, etc).
The thread also provides info on some upcoming improvements, including QOL improvements such as increased module storage, and bookmarks, and the somewhat nebulous but promising “create stronger links between the in-cockpit and on foot game”. They are also pointing to the issue tracker which they are using to prioritise issues. So, if you want something fixed, push people to vote for it.
In general this feels like things are starting to move in the right direction after a very difficult launch. Hopefully things continue to improve.****

Odyssey News

***Odyssey ***continues to be the key piece of news at the moment. There is a lot of anger out there in the community at the moment due to the problems with this release, both the bugs, the difficulties some players are having playing at all, and those areas where Odyssey simply falls short of what they told us they would deliver. However, there are also many people out there who are enjoying the upgrades to the look of some of the planets, the additional variety of on-foot gameplay, the sense of scale, etc. All in all, this is a difficult time for the game community, and I’d like to ask everyone to give each other a bit of slack.
It’s worth noting that FDEV are releasing a roadmap on Friday of more substantial fixes and improvements that are coming up. This should be a key step for the in providing clarity about addressing these issues.
In other Odyssey news, a couple things on a more practical note:
- Missions which require you to go and get some object and bring it back appear to be broken right now such that you cannot hand in the mission.
- We are also identifying and sharing locations where pre-upgraded G3 equipment can be purchased in the Odyssey channel.
Meanwhile, I’d still encourage you to support this ticket about the major UI problems. Other issues are slowly being added into the comments on this issue.
